Zubeen Garg wished for his last rites to be by Brahmaputra

The sudden demise of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has left fans across Assam and beyond in shock and mourning. As tributes pour in, an old interview has resurfaced in which the singer shared his wishes for his final moments. The 52-year-old had expressed a deep attachment to the Brahmaputra River, stating that he wanted his body to be cremated on its banks or have his remains washed away in its waters. In his final conversation with POP Pavelopedia, Zubeen said, “It’s a good place. One of the best. I’ll stay there and die there. People should burn me there. Or wash me up in the Brahmaputra. I’m a soldier. I’m like Rambo.”

On Sunday, thousands of fans gathered in Guwahati, lining the streets and the airport to pay their respects as Zubeen’s body arrived. His wife, Garima, was seen inconsolable upon seeing the casket. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid his respects at the airport and later at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex.

Zubeen Garg’s untimely passing marks a profound loss for the cultural and musical landscape of Assam, as fans and fellow artists unite to honor the life and legacy of one of the region’s most beloved icons.
