Building global tech, the Indian way :
Zoho’s growth story spanning over 25 years with 100 million users across more than 150 countries stands out as an example of how innovation and inclusivity can coexist. While headquartered in Chennai and Tenkasi, the company competes globally against tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Evernote, yet does so on its own terms self-funded, locally rooted, and proudly independent. With increasing local tech push, Zoho is well positioned to take good advantage of the market.
With this latest AI-powered Notebook release, Zoho reaffirms that world-class software innovation doesn’t need Silicon Valley skyscrapers; it can emerge just as powerfully from the serene fields of Tamil Nadu.
Rural roots, global vision :
Unlike most tech giants concentrated in metropolitan hubs, Zoho runs its global operations from Tenkasi, a small town in Tamil Nadu, and several rural centers across India. This “rural revival model” was initiated by Zoho’s founder and CEO, Sridhar Vembu, who envisioned that world-class software could be built from non-urban areas while creating local employment and reducing the urban migration of skilled youth.
Zoho’s rural campuses are designed as self-sustaining ecosystems that integrate technology, agriculture, and education. The company recruits and trains local talent through its Zoho Schools of Learning, an alternative to conventional engineering colleges, providing young people from smaller towns a direct path into the tech industry.
“Zoho’s model isn’t just about cost-efficiency, it's about decentralizing opportunity,” says Vembu. “Our products compete globally, but our people are rooted in communities where the impact is most meaningful.”
