Zelenskyy Announces Major Cabinet Overhaul After Prime Minister Svyrydenko Steps Down

Ukraine has begun a major political restructuring after Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned , with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announcing plans to introduce fresh changes aimed at strengthening the government’s strategy during the ongoing war with Russia.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine was entering a new phase of its political approach and that he had offered Svyrydenko a new and important role connected to relations with a key international partner. However, he did not disclose details of the position or explain the full scope of the upcoming reshuffle.

Svyrydenko, who previously served as Ukraine’s economy minister, became prime minister in July 2025 at the age of 39 . She played a significant role in negotiating a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States , which was viewed as a move to strengthen Washington’s economic and security interests in Ukraine.

In a statement after stepping down, Svyrydenko said she was honoured to have led the government during one of the most challenging periods in Ukraine’s modern history. She added that she remained committed to serving the Ukrainian state and supporting efforts to protect national interests and achieve a lasting peace.

The reshuffle marks the fourth major reorganization of Ukraine’s government since Russia launched its full-scale invasion . Zelenskyy said key foreign policy areas would now be assigned to officials with specific expertise and experience to ensure that international agreements and strategic decisions are effectively implemented.

The Ukrainian president also indicated that changes would be made among the country’s senior law enforcement officials . Following the announcement, Zelenskyy held meetings with several top government figures, including Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
