Yuvraj Singh breaks silence: Apologises to Dhoni and Kapil over father’s remarks
Former India all-rounder and 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh has publicly distanced himself from the fiery statements of his father, Yograj Singh , who had blamed Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Yuvraj’s ouster from the national team and criticised Kapil Dev over past selection disputes.
In a candid conversation on the ‘Sports Tak’ podcast , Yuvraj called his father’s remarks “not okay” and extended a heartfelt apology to both cricketing legends. “I would like to apologise to Kapil and M S Dhoni for the comments because Kapil paaji has been a great player for India. What kind of relationship they had, I don’t know—I wasn’t even born,” he said.
Yuvraj emphasised that he had spoken to his father about the issue. “I told him, ‘It’s not okay because things reflect on me. I have played with him, and I would appreciate you not saying these things about him.’” The all-rounder made it clear that his father’s words do not represent his own views. “Whatever the reasons, you know what they are. But I would sincerely like to apologise to both of them for the words, they also know the words are not mine . As cricketers, I have huge respect for them for what they have done for the country,” Yuvraj added.
Yograj Singh had publicly claimed that Dhoni was responsible for Yuvraj’s exclusion from the team, while also recalling incidents with Kapil Dev , saying he was unfairly dropped during his own playing days. Yuvraj, however, focused on respect and reconciliation , underscoring that his father’s grievances should not tarnish his own relationships with these cricketing icons.
Yuvraj’s comments come as a mature attempt to address decades-old controversies and reaffirm the bonds of respect among Indian cricket’s legendary figures.
