Yuvraj Singh Begins New Innings as Delhi Capitals’ Assistant and Batting Coach

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is set to embark on a new chapter in his cricketing career after being appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The appointment marks his first formal coaching role after years of experience as an international cricketer and mentor to emerging Indian talent.

The 44-year-old, renowned for his match-winning performances and big-hitting prowess, brings considerable experience to the franchise. He represented India in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals and was part of multiple World Cup-winning campaigns.

Since retiring from international cricket, Yuvraj has mentored several established and emerging players, including Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh. His experience in high-pressure matches and understanding of batting across formats are expected to strengthen Delhi Capitals’ coaching setup as the team prepares for the next IPL season.

Expressing his excitement over the appointment, Yuvraj said joining Delhi Capitals would be a special opportunity because of his longstanding association with the franchise and its owners.

He also expressed enthusiasm about working alongside Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as Dada, this time in a coaching capacity. Yuvraj said coaching was something he was passionate about and that he looked forward to contributing to the success of a talented squad.

The appointment also reunites Yuvraj with the Delhi franchise, which made headlines in 2015 by signing him for a record Rs 16 crore at the IPL auction. The then Delhi Daredevils secured his services for all 14 matches that season, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time.

His transition into a formal coaching role adds another dimension to his association with the IPL. Having experienced the demands of international cricket, major tournaments and franchise cricket as a player, Yuvraj will now look to translate that knowledge into a coaching role, with particular responsibility for Delhi Capitals’ batting preparations.

For Delhi Capitals, the appointment brings a former World Cup-winning star into the dugout as the franchise looks to build a competitive squad for the 2027 season.
