YSRCP's Unique Agitation Puts Gundala Water Crisis in Spotlight
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders and residents of Vijayawada’s Gundala Hill area staged a protest alleging that drinking water meant for local communities was being diverted to apartment complexes and commercial buildings in the Gaddevari Polalu region.
Leading the agitation, YSRCP NTR district president and Vijayawada East coordinator Devineni Avinash accused the ruling coalition government of ignoring public concerns and failing to protect essential civic services . Residents from Gangireddula Dibba, Vijayanagar Colony, and Christurajapuram joined the demonstration, demanding uninterrupted water supply to their neighborhoods.
Avinash claimed that drinking water issues in the area had been addressed during the previous YSRCP administration and criticized the current government for not responding effectively to residents’ grievances. He also alleged that police deployment at the protest site was intended to discourage peaceful demonstrations.
The protest prompted intervention from municipal authorities , who held discussions with the agitators. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s Superintending Engineer subsequently issued a written assurance stating that measures would be taken to safeguard drinking water supply to the Gundala Hill region and prevent any disruption to local residents.
Welcoming the commitment, Avinash said the party would closely monitor its implementation and warned of further protests if the assurance was not honored. He described the outcome as a significant win for the affected communities.
