YSRCP Stands by Contract Nurses, Lab Technicians Demanding Job Security
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has backed the protest by contract nurses and laboratory technicians working in government hospitals, demanding that the state government resolve their long-pending issues and provide better employment conditions.
Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, YSRCP Nandyal district president and former Pan yam MLA, extended his support to the protesting employees at Dharna Chowk in Kurnool. He urged the government to regularise their services, increase salaries and provide job security, stressing that their legitimate demands should be addressed without further delay.
Speaking at the protest, Reddy pointed out that nurses and lab technicians had been working under the contract system for years despite performing essential duties in the public healthcare sector. He said their continued employment without adequate security had left many workers facing uncertainty and financial difficulties.
He particularly highlighted the services rendered by healthcare personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they continued treating patients and protecting public health despite risking their own lives. The government, he said, must recognise their dedication and ensure that their contributions receive due consideration.
Reddy observed that rising prices of essential commodities, children's education expenses and the increasing cost of household maintenance had placed a heavy financial burden on contract employees. Under these circumstances, leaving their concerns unresolved would only deepen their hardships.
He called on the government to take immediate steps towards regularisation. If regularisation is not immediately possible, the government should provide adequate wages and other employment benefits to improve the workers' financial stability and working conditions.
Emphasising the importance of healthcare staff in maintaining public health, Reddy said employees who serve people around the clock should also have financial security and a dependable future for their families.
Reaffirming the party's position, he assured the protesting employees that YSRCP would continue to support their struggle for fair wages, employment security and the fulfilment of their long-pending demands.
The party called for prompt government intervention to resolve the grievances of contract nurses and laboratory technicians and ensure that their service to the public is matched by fair treatment and adequate protection.
