YSRCP Hits Streets Over Soaring Fuel Prices in Andhra Pradesh
The YSR Congress Party on Monday launched statewide protests against the rising petrol and diesel prices in Andhra Pradesh, accusing the government of placing a heavy financial burden on common people. The agitation was organised following a call by party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, with demonstrations held across major cities including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kurnool and Tirupati.
Party leaders and workers adopted innovative methods to draw public attention during the protests. Bicycle rallies were organised in Visakhapatnam, while bullock-cart processions were taken out in Vijayawada and Kurnool to symbolically highlight the impact of soaring fuel prices. Protesters carrying placards raised slogans against the state government at several locations.
Former minister K. Venkata Nageswara Rao attracted attention during a protest at Tanuku by riding a horse in opposition to the government’s economic policies . He alleged that the ruling Telugu Desam Party had failed to fulfil its promise of reducing fuel prices after coming to power. He also claimed that fuel rates in Andhra Pradesh were higher than in neighbouring states such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, adding that the hikes had severely affected auto drivers and middle-class families .
Senior YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu also joined the agitation and was seen pulling a cycle rickshaw as part of the protest. He demanded an immediate rollback of fuel price hikes and warned that the party would intensify its agitation if the government failed to address public concerns.
