YSRCP Erupts in Statewide Uproar Over Remarks by Vemuri Radhakrishna

A political storm has broken out in Andhra Pradesh following controversial comments by Vemuri Radhakrishna in his column “Kotha Paluku” . Leaders of the YSR Congress Party alleged that the remarks targeted party members, their families, and women, triggering widespread outrage.

Acting on the party’s call, YSRCP cadres staged protests across the state on Wednesday. Attempts to surround offices of ABN Andhra Jyothi were blocked by police, resulting in tense stand-offs at several locations.

Sharp Criticism Over Remarks

YSRCP leaders condemned the comments as offensive and inappropriate, particularly those directed at women. They demanded that Vemuri Radhakrishna issue an immediate public apology, warning of intensified agitation if he fails to do so.

Statewide Protests Intensify

Demonstrations were reported from multiple districts. In Anantapur, party leaders including Ramesh Gowd and Girijamma led protests that briefly turned tense when police intervened.

In Alur (Kurnool district), MLA Busine Virupakshi led a protest, accusing certain media figures and opposition leaders of acting with vested interests. He also linked the criticism to rising public support for Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy .

In Rajamahendravaram, former minister Venu Gopala Krishna and former MP Margani Bharat led a rally, with police deploying barricades to manage the crowd as protesters raised slogans.

Protests were also held in Tanuku and Visakhapatnam, where leaders like Karumuri Nageswara Rao , Mudunuri Prasad Raju , Gudivada Amarnath , and KK Raju criticized the remarks and alleged police interference, including removal of protest setups and preventive detentions.

Detentions Draw Criticism

In Kadapa, former Deputy Chief Minister Amzath Basha was placed under house arrest ahead of the protests, drawing criticism from party leaders who accused the government of restricting democratic rights. In Vijayawada, former MLA Malladi Vishnu alleged that Vemuri Radhakrishna was functioning as a political agent under the guise of journalism.

Protesters Demand Apology

YSRCP leaders across the state reiterated a single demand a public apology from Vemuri Radhakrishna . They warned that protests would continue until he responds, while also accusing authorities of attempting to curb the agitation using police force.
