YSRCP claims historic success in one-crore signature campaign against medical college privatization

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) announced that its “One-Crore Signatures” campaign opposing the privatization of government medical colleges has been a historic success. The party collected over one crore signatures from citizens across Andhra Pradesh, highlighting widespread public opposition to the state government’s proposed policy.

Mass rallies were organized in all 26 district headquarters, where citizens actively participated, demonstrating their disapproval of the policies of the TDP-led state government under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. According to YSRCP leaders, the campaign was not just about protecting government medical colleges - it also served as a broader public rejection of the government’s perceived anti-people policies.

YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed gratitude to party leaders, workers, and all citizens who voluntarily signed the petition. He emphasized that the campaign reflects people’s determination to prevent privatization of public resources and ensure medical education remains accessible.

“The signatures collected will be officially submitted to the Governor today, December 18, at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli. This ensures that the voice of the people reaches the state’s highest constitutional authority, and eventually, the judiciary,” Jagan said.

The campaign attracted participation from people of all social backgrounds. Citizens were motivated by concerns that privatization of government medical colleges would undermine public health services and restrict access to medical education.

State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy stated, “We have collected over 1.04 crore signatures. This campaign reflects the public verdict on the privatization issue. If Chandrababu Naidu wants credit, he can acknowledge that he built the colleges. But the public is making it clear: do not privatize these colleges and jeopardize the education and livelihoods of poor students.”

YSRCP leaders reiterated that the campaign represents strong public opposition to the TDP government’s privatization plans. Former minister Amarnath said the signatures symbolize the foundation of resistance against the government’s attempts to sell off public medical colleges. Gorantla Madhav added that the public’s rejection of the privatization move sends a clear message: the decision must be withdrawn immediately.

The YSRCP confirmed that the collected signatures would be formally submitted to the Governor today, demanding the government reverse its plan to privatize medical colleges.
