YSRCP Announces Statewide Agitations Against Fuel Price Hike
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has announced a series of statewide protest programmes today across Andhra Pradesh, opposing the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. Party leaders alleged that the ruling coalition had failed to honour its pre-election promise of easing fuel costs, instead adding to the burden on the public.
The decision was outlined during a teleconference held on Sunday, where party State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy interacted with regional coordinators, district presidents, MLAs, and constituency in-charges. He expressed concern that Andhra Pradesh has emerged among the states with the highest fuel prices in the country.
Criticising the government, Sajjala said households were already struggling with rising living expenses and the fuel price hike had further worsened their situation. He added that the increase was directly impacting farmers, transport operators, small traders, and middle-class families, as higher fuel costs were pushing up transportation charges and, in turn, the prices of essential goods.
He also referred to earlier assurances made by political leaders N. Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh regarding fuel price reductions, stating that the current administration was now responsible for implementing those commitments.
As per party directives issued by YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy , protests will be held at all constituency headquarters across the state. Party MLAs and constituency coordinators are expected to lead the demonstrations on the ground.
After the protests, party cadres have been instructed to submit memorandums to district collectors, RDOs, and tahsildars. The leadership has urged all affiliated wings, political groups, and public organisations to participate actively and ensure wide participation through visible and innovative forms of protest.
Andhra Pradesh currently figures among the top states with the highest petrol prices in India. The approximate rates are:
• Andhra Pradesh – Rs 113.62 per litre
• Telangana – Rs 110.89 per litre
• Kerala – Rs 110.48 per litre
• Bihar – Rs 110.27 per litre
• Madhya Pradesh – Rs 110.25 per litre
