YSRCP Alleges Rise in Attacks on Dalits at Jagjivan Ram Jayanti Event

Leaders of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Sunday organised a grand event at the party’s central office in Tadepalli to mark the birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram . On the occasion, party leaders paid floral tributes to his portrait.

The programme was attended by former minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao , former MLA Malladi Vishnu , YSRCP SC Cell Working President Kommuri Kanaka Rao , and others.

Speaking at the event, YSRCP leaders alleged that attacks and harassment against Dalits have increased after the coalition government came to power in the state. They criticised the government for failing to respond even when atrocities against Dalit women occur in public , and accused it of mocking the implementation of laws meant to protect vulnerable communities.

No Protection for Dalits Under Coalition Rule

Former MLA Malladi Vishnu stated that late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had implemented the Sub-Plan for the protection of Dalit rights, and that Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is continuing efforts for the welfare of backward sections. However, he alleged that Dalits are now left without protection under the present coalition government.

Criticism Over Speaker Incident

Former minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao criticised Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu , alleging that an incident in which a Dalit man playing a drum was slapped reflects the government’s attitude. He said that attacks on Dalits are bringing shame to society .

Remembering Jagjivan Ram’s Contributions

Kommuri Kanaka Rao said that Babu Jagjivan Ram was not only a freedom fighter but also played a key role in the building of modern India . He noted that Jagjivan Ram served as a Union Minister for 33 years , handling several important portfolios.

Party spokesperson Velpula Ravi stated that Jagjivan Ram had fought against social inequalities and untouchability even before Independence. He described him as an able administrator who efficiently handled key ministries such as Railways, Agriculture, Labour, and Defence.

A large number of party leaders and workers from various wings attended the programme.
