Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila has called on party leaders and workers from Andhra Pradesh to assemble in New Delhi on Monday to protest against the deletion of voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Sharmila issued the appeal following directions from AICC general secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, urging the state Congress leadership to unite against the alleged removal of voters from electoral lists. She asked all party leaders, cadres and workers to reach the national capital by Monday morning and participate in the protest scheduled for the day.

In her message, Sharmila urged Congress members to join hands with party colleagues and like-minded allies to oppose voter deletions. She stressed that the issue required collective action and active participation from the party's state unit.

Taking to X, the APCC chief underlined that the campaign was not merely a political confrontation but a fight to uphold constitutional principles and protect citizens' democratic rights. She emphasised the importance of safeguarding every eligible vote and ensuring that the electoral revision process did not deprive citizens of their right to participate in elections.

The Congress has raised concerns about voter deletions during the SIR exercise, arguing that electoral roll revisions must protect eligible voters and maintain the integrity of the democratic process. The Delhi protest is intended to bring party leaders and workers together to register their opposition and draw attention to these concerns.

Sharmila's appeal places the protection of voting rights at the centre of the party's mobilisation efforts. By calling on the Andhra Pradesh Congress unit to participate in the national-level demonstration, she has sought to reinforce the party's collective stand on the issue.

Constitutional protection, electoral integrity and the right to vote remain the central themes of her message as Congress leaders prepare to join the protest in Delhi.
