YS Jagan to Meet Jailed Alur MLA Virupakshi in Kurnool Today

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will visit Kurnool district today and meet Alur MLA B. Virupakshi, who is currently lodged in Panchalingala district jail.

Jagan will leave his residence in Tadepalli at 9 am and is scheduled to reach Orvakal Airport around 11 am. From there, he will proceed to Panchalingala district jail to meet Virupakshi, who was arrested in connection with a case.

During the meeting, Jagan is expected to express solidarity with the jailed legislator and offer him moral support. After meeting Virupakshi, Jagan will address the media before leaving Kurnool in the afternoon.

The visit comes at a time when the YSRCP has stepped up its criticism of the state government over the arrest of its MLA. The party has questioned the circumstances surrounding the case and maintained that Virupakshi has been unfairly targeted.

Jagan has also intensified his criticism of the N Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government following the death of postgraduate medical student Dr Kanike Priyanka in Rajamahendravaram.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, Jagan said Priyanka’s parents had made considerable sacrifices to support her medical education and help her pursue her ambition of becoming a doctor. He said it was particularly painful that they would not get to witness the professional success for which they had worked so hard.

Jagan alleged serious negligence and political bias in the handling of the case by the state police. He claimed that the incident had once again exposed shortcomings in the functioning of the government machinery and police system.

The former Chief Minister further accused the government of using its authority against opposition leaders and those who question its functioning. Referring to the “Red Book Constitution”, he alleged that constitutional principles were being compromised in dealing with political opponents and government critics.

Jagan also questioned the government’s response to cases involving ordinary citizens, alleging that the police and administration were failing to enforce the law uniformly. He termed the situation deeply unfortunate and called for greater accountability in the functioning of the state’s law-and-order machinery.

His remarks are likely to keep the focus on police accountability and law enforcement, while his Kurnool visit will provide the YSRCP chief an opportunity to demonstrate solidarity with Virupakshi and reinforce the party’s political position.
