YS Jagan to Begin Statewide Padayatra in 2027, Targets 2029 Elections

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that he will undertake a statewide padayatra in September or October 2027, ahead of the 2029 elections. The proposed foot march is expected to serve as a major outreach exercise, allowing Jagan to engage directly with people across Andhra Pradesh and prepare the party for the next electoral contest.

Jagan made the announcement while addressing YSRCP local-body representatives, leaders and key party workers from the Parchur Assembly constituency in Bapatla district at the party’s central office in Tadepalli. He said people were already comparing the five-year YSRCP administration with the performance of the present Chandrababu Naidu government.

Defending his party’s record in office, Jagan claimed that the YSRCP had delivered on 99% of its election manifesto promises and maintained its credibility among voters. He said his government had decentralised administration through village secretariats and a volunteer system covering every 50 households. Welfare schemes, he added, were implemented transparently and without discrimination, while an annual welfare calendar was announced alongside every budget.

Jagan also highlighted initiatives undertaken in education, healthcare and agriculture. He cited Nadu-Nedu, bilingual textbooks, digital classrooms, TOEFL training and tablets for Class 8 students among his government’s education measures. In healthcare, he said Aarogyasri coverage had been expanded from 1,000 to 3,300 treatments, with medical assistance of up to ₹25 lakh. He also pointed to village clinics, the Family Doctor programme and plans for 18 new medical colleges.

For the farming community, Jagan highlighted Rythu Bharosa Kendras, e-crop registration and systems to monitor agricultural prices.

Criticising the current coalition government, Jagan alleged that several promises made before the elections had not been fulfilled. He accused Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan of making a series of financial commitments before the polls, including ₹15,000 for every school-going child, ₹18,000 annually under Aada Bidda Nidhi, ₹26,000 for farmers, ₹48,000 under Cheyutha and a monthly unemployment allowance of ₹3,000.

He further alleged that local-body elections were being delayed and accused the government of misusing the administrative machinery against its critics.

Calling the coming political contest a “Kurukshetra battle,” Jagan urged party workers to remain connected with the public and expressed confidence that the YSRCP would prevail if elections were conducted fairly.
