YS Jagan Demands Immediate Halt to Land Acquisition in Amaravati, Alleges Farmer Harassment

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has demanded that the state government immediately halt what he described as forcible land acquisition in the Amaravati capital region, alleging that farmers are being harassed and their livelihoods threatened.

The controversy erupted after videos from Undavalli village in the capital region went viral on social media, allegedly showing police personnel removing farmers from their fields while bulldozers entered agricultural lands and damaged standing crops. Responding to the developments through a post on X, Jagan accused the government of using force against farmers and warned that such actions were unacceptable.

He urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to stop all land acquisition activities that do not have the consent of landowners. Jagan also demanded full compensation for damaged crops , arguing that farmers should not be made to bear losses caused by government actions.

According to the former chief minister, land acquisition should only proceed if farmers willingly agree to part with their properties. He said using police force, destroying cultivated crops and removing farmers from their own lands amounted to a serious violation of their rights. Jagan assured affected families that the YSR Congress Party would stand firmly with farmers in their efforts to protect their land and livelihood.

The opposition leader alleged that the government was ignoring repeated objections from farmers who have made it clear that they are unwilling to surrender lands that serve as their primary source of income. He claimed that instead of engaging in dialogue, authorities had deployed large numbers of police personnel and machinery to take possession of the land.

Jagan pointed out that many of those affected are small and marginal farmers , whose few acres of land support entire families and fund their children's education. He questioned how these families would survive if their lands were taken away and asked who would compensate them for investments already made in the current crop season.

Highlighting the value of the land in question, Jagan noted that Undavalli is located close to Vijayawada, the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway and Tadepalli , making it one of the most valuable real estate zones in the region. He questioned the basis on which compensation was being determined and asked whether the acquired land was ultimately intended to benefit ordinary citizens or a select group of influential interests.

Reiterating his stand, Jagan said not even a single cent of land should be acquired without the consent of farmers , and warned that his party would continue to oppose any move that undermines the rights and livelihood of agricultural communities in the Amaravati region.
