YS Jagan Assures Support to Eedumudi Victims, Greets New Council Deputy Chairman
YSRCP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday met families from Eedumudi village in Prakasam district who alleged that they were assaulted and later implicated in a counter-case, while also congratulating party MLC Thoomati Madhava Rao on his unanimous election as Deputy Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.
The Eedumudi villagers, belonging to the Yadava community, met Jagan at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli and apprised him of what they described as an assault, subsequent police action and difficulties faced by their families. According to party leaders, Jagan assured the affected families that the party would stand by them, extend protection and support their efforts to secure justice.
YSRCP state secretary Botla Ramarao alleged that Yadava community members grazing sheep in Eedumudi were attacked and that victims Atalamudi Anil and Madhubabu were allegedly assaulted near the TDP office in the village. He said a case had been registered at the Naguluppalapadu police station and that a medical report from a government hospital was also available.
Ramarao alleged that a counter-case was subsequently registered against the victims, with the complainants being portrayed as accused. He criticised the move, arguing that those who had approached the authorities after the alleged assault were instead facing further legal difficulties. He also alleged that police picketing had been deployed in the village and that the victims were prevented from bringing their grievances to the attention of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his visit.
Madhubabu alleged that the June 7 incident involved caste-based abuse and physical assault. He claimed that after an initial confrontation, he and his brother Anil were attacked again near the TDP office later that evening and were threatened with serious consequences if they spoke about the incident. He said the family approached the police on June 10 but alleged that, despite a case being registered against those accused of attacking them, they continued to face difficulties because of the counter-case.
Meanwhile, another significant development took place at the YSRCP central office with Thoomati Madhava Rao, who was unanimously elected Deputy Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, meeting Jagan along with his family members.
Madhava Rao thanked Jagan for giving him the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chairman and said he would work responsibly to uphold the trust placed in him and bring dignity to the position. Jagan congratulated him on his unanimous election and conveyed his best wishes for his tenure.
