Youth attacks three in Anantapur, CI among those injured

A shocking incident unfolded in Anantapur district when a young man under the influence of alcohol went on a violent spree, injuring three people, including a Circle Inspector (CI).

On Sunday night, near a church in Aravindnagar, a quarrel erupted between D. Ajay Kumar and his friend Chakali Raja while they were drinking with friends. The argument escalated, and Ajay attacked Raja with a knife, leaving him critically injured and currently in a coma receiving medical treatment. Shortly afterward, Ajay also assaulted an auto-rickshaw driver, stabbing him in the abdomen.

The series of attacks created panic in the area as Ajay fled the scene. Police immediately launched a search operation, and on Monday morning, information placed Ajay near the TV Tower in Shikari Colony. CI M. Sreekanth and his team arrived to apprehend him, but Ajay ran into a sugarcane field in Akutottapalli outskirts. During the chase, he attacked CI Sreekanth with a knife, injuring the officer. In self-defense, the CI fired at Ajay, who was also wounded and subsequently taken into custody for treatment.

District SP P. Jagdish strongly condemned the attack. He warned that law enforcement would take strict action against rowdy elements who threaten public safety, especially those who attack police officers on duty.

Currently, the CI, the auto driver, and Chakali Raja are all receiving treatment in hospital.
