Credit is increasingly being viewed as a responsible enabler of progress by young Indians, who are using it to invest in upskilling, career advancement, and entrepreneurship, according to a recent survey conducted by digital lending platform mPokket.

It was revealed in the survey that for today’s generation, access to credit is regarded not as dependency but as a gateway to possibility.

As per the findings, 63 per cent of respondents reported a positive impact on their financial well-being due to access to credit. Nearly 40 per cent were found to be using credit for forward-looking purposes such as professional growth (21.1 per cent), lifestyle enhancement (20 per cent), and education (16.5 per cent).

While 26.3 per cent of participants were found to rely on credit for healthcare needs, and 12.4 per cent for emergencies, the overall trend was said to demonstrate a shift toward self-investment and long-term growth. The survey, which was conducted among more than 3,000 young Indians, highlighted this transition clearly.

Additionally, nearly 10 per cent of respondents were reported to be channeling credit into freelancing, creative projects, or small business ventures, reflecting how financial accessibility is being utilized to unlock India’s entrepreneurial potential across both cities and smaller towns.

A statement by Gaurav Jalan, Founder and CEO of mPokket, noted that a powerful shift is being witnessed in how young India engages with finance. According to him, credit is no longer perceived merely as access but as agency. It was stated that when used responsibly, credit can become a tool for self-growth, helping individuals upskill, plan ahead, and participate more confidently in the economy.
