Yogi Adityanath tells BJP workers to make voter list revision their top priority

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday directed BJP MLAs and office-bearers to treat the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as their highest priority, urging them to devote the next one month entirely to voter verification and enrolment.

Chairing a meeting with legislators and senior party leaders at the Annexe auditorium here, Adityanath said SIR was the most crucial opportunity to ensure a clean and accurate voter list ahead of upcoming elections. The exercise involves filling various SIR forms meant for new voter enrolment , deletion of names of those who have shifted or passed away , correction of voter details , and address changes , he explained.

Adityanath asked party workers to conduct booth-wise, door-to-door surveys to identify which households have submitted SIR forms and which remain pending. The cadres must verify voters who have moved out, include those who have recently migrated into Gorakhpur for employment, and ensure that newly married women, whose names may have been deleted from their previous address, are re-added at their new residence. The SIR process in Uttar Pradesh is scheduled to begin on December 16 .

The Chief Minister directed district presidents to form teams of 10 workers per booth, five men and five women, to interact with voters and assist them in completing the required forms. MLAs were told to stay in constant touch with booth-level workers, monitor every booth’s progress, and pay close attention to cases filed during the claims-and-objections phase , where stricter monitoring can significantly reduce bogus or duplicate entries by flagging shifted, deceased or duplicate voters.

Adityanath also referred to opposition protests against the SIR, warning BJP cadres not to be misled by them. Public protests do not mean rival parties are inactive, he said, noting that in earlier years, political parties have routinely carried out aggressive verification campaigns door-to-door drives, setting up helpdesks, mobilising youth wings, and using social media to quietly strengthen their booth-level presence. “Their cadres are working on the ground. BJP workers must respond with equal commitment,” he said.

He called for voter-awareness camps in every booth, both in cities and rural areas, stressing that every legitimate voter must be included while preventing any fraudulent entry from slipping through.

The meeting was attended by Gorakhpur in-charge minister Swatantradev Singh, NISHAD Party national president Sanjay Nishad, BJP state vice-president and SIR in-charge Dharmendra Singh, regional president Sahajanand Rai, local MLAs, district presidents and SIR convenors.
