Yash’s Deadly ‘Raya’ Avatar From ‘Toxic’ Sparks Massive Hype
Kannada star Yash has intensified anticipation around his upcoming gangster epic Toxic after unveiling a striking new still from the film during the ongoing Cannes Film Festival. The newly released promotional material features Yash as “Raya,” an undefeated drug lord, standing amid neon-soaked chaos in a gritty, stylised setup that hints at the film’s dark and ambitious tone.
The makers also shared behind-the-scenes photographs from the sets, showing Yash alongside director Geetu Mohandas and Hollywood stunt coordinator JJ Perry during the shoot. The visuals have quickly gained traction online, with fans praising the film’s international-scale presentation and Yash’s intense transformation.
Adding to the buzz, Yash recently appeared on the cover of Variety at Cannes, where he described Toxic as “a fairy tale for grown-ups.” Speaking about the film’s emotional core, the actor said the story explores morality, vulnerability and raw human emotions through Geetu Mohandas’ distinctive “female gaze,” offering a layered take on the gangster genre.
Set across Goa and parts of Southeast Asia during the 1980s and 1990s, Toxic is being mounted on a massive scale with an estimated budget reportedly between ₹700 crore and ₹800 crore. The film is simultaneously being shot in Kannada and English, aiming for a wide international audience.
The ensemble cast includes Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and several prominent actors from across Indian cinema . The action-heavy drama is expected to blend stylised violence with emotional storytelling, positioning itself as one of the biggest Indian releases in production.
On the release front, the makers are yet to officially lock a date. However, industry reports suggest the film is currently targeting an August 2026 theatrical release, though an official announcement is still awaited. Fans are also expecting a teaser or glimpse to be unveiled in the coming months as production progresses.
