Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shafali Verma Receive NADA Notices Over Missed Dope Tests
Indian cricketers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma have been issued notices by the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) after being found to have missed scheduled dope tests last year, resulting in what is termed a first instance of whereabouts failure under anti doping rules.
Both players are part of the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) , a group of elite athletes required to regularly update their location details and remain available for out of competition testing. According to sources, the two athletes did not provide explanations for missing the tests, which prompted NADA to initiate formal communication.
A well placed source confirmed that notices have been sent to the athletes and also shared with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). NADA, however, has not made an official comment, citing confidentiality protocols.
The BCCI acknowledged the development and said it would look into the matter. A board source stated that clarification will be sought from the players and corrective steps will be taken to avoid such lapses in the future. The source also emphasized the importance of strict compliance, especially with cricket set to feature in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games .
Under anti doping regulations, athletes in the RTP must provide accurate daily whereabouts information and be available for testing within specified time windows. A total of three missed tests or failures within a set period can lead to a potential anti doping rule violation and possible suspension.
At present, 13 Indian cricketers are part of the RTP in the ongoing cycle, which includes 348 athletes across sports. Prominent names such as Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Arshdeep Singh are also in the list. Women cricketers including Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma and Renuka Singh Thakur are part of the pool.
While Yashasvi is currently active in the IPL with Rajasthan Royals, Shafali recently featured in India’s white ball tour of South Africa.
The development places renewed focus on compliance awareness among elite athletes as Indian sport continues to align with global anti doping standards.
