Yash Strikes Again: TOXIC nets ₹63 Cr advance, heads to IMAX screens nationwide
The upcoming pan-India film headlined by Yash has created a major buzz in the southern film trade after securing a record-breaking ₹63 crore advance from Tamil Nadu distributors , the highest ever for a Sandalwood or non-Tamil film in the state.
The distribution alliance covers key markets including Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, and Salem , highlighting strong commercial confidence surrounding the project. Analysts attribute this unprecedented deal to Yash’s sustained popularity following the phenomenal success of KGF Chapter 2 , which collected over ₹100 crore in Tamil Nadu alone .
Pre-release business elsewhere has also been impressive: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana rights reportedly sold for ₹120 crore , while overseas distribution deals reached ₹105 crore , making it one of the most expensive pre-release packages in Indian cinema.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Geetu Mohandas , the film stars Kiara Advani and Nayanthara . The makers are planning a premium IMAX release across India , making it the first Sandalwood/non-Tamil film to target massive-format screens in key metros . According to sources, the IMAX rollout is being coordinated to maximise visual impact , especially during high-footfall periods in the festive season.
Industry insiders say the film is being positioned as a large-scale action spectacle with international production values, designed to appeal to both domestic and global audiences. Yet, with record-breaking advances and premium-format expectations, trade circles are debating whether the project can deliver box-office returns on par with its ambitious pre-release business.
With marketing ramping up and distributors betting big on IMAX ticket sales, the film is poised to set new benchmarks for southern cinema in premium-format exhibitions.
