Yamuna Cruise Service Set for Launch Next Month in New Delhi
In a major push to boost river tourism and urban recreation, the Delhi government is preparing to launch a cruise service on the Yamuna River next month in New Delhi.
According to official sources, a 40-seater vessel constructed in Mumbai and brought to the capital earlier this year has completed interior works and is fully equipped for operations. The cruise is expected to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta , with the final launch date likely to be announced within the next two weeks.
The service will offer hour-long round trips along a designated stretch of the Yamuna, providing passengers with onboard amenities such as music, food, and entertainment. The initiative is part of a broader riverfront development plan aimed at transforming the Yamuna into a vibrant hub for leisure and tourism.
Officials said the project is designed to offer residents an experience comparable to popular destinations like Goa, without leaving the city. Plans are also underway to introduce water sports and additional recreational activities at the cruise terminal to create a comprehensive leisure zone.
While detailed ticket pricing, schedules, and booking mechanisms are yet to be officially announced, authorities have indicated that the service will be priced affordably to ensure accessibility for a wide section of the public. Booking options are expected to include both online platforms and on-site ticket counters.
Safety measures are set to follow standard maritime protocols, including life jackets for all passengers, onboard safety equipment, public announcement systems, and trained staff to handle emergencies.
The cruise project is part of a collaborative effort involving the Delhi government and central agencies, focusing on river rejuvenation, improved infrastructure, and sustainable tourism along the Yamuna.
