Indian judoka Yamini Mourya delivered one of the most spirited performances of the Commonwealth Games, battling relentlessly before settling for a silver medal after a dramatic golden-score defeat to England's Acelya Toprak in the women's 57kg final.

The summit clash turned into a gripping test of endurance, technique and mental strength as neither athlete managed to break the deadlock during regulation time. From the opening moments, both competitors displayed attacking intent, with Toprak looking to dominate through aggressive throws while Yamini responded with remarkable composure and disciplined defence.

The Indian judoka repeatedly frustrated the English challenger by neutralising several groundwork attempts and staying composed under sustained pressure. As the contest progressed, Toprak increased the intensity of her attacks, forcing Yamini onto the defensive. The pressure resulted in a penalty against the Indian, yet the scoreboard remained unchanged as both athletes continued to search for the decisive breakthrough.

A crucial moment arrived late in regulation when Toprak appeared to have executed a scoring manoeuvre. However, the referees ruled that the action had not originated from a standing position, denying the English judoka any points and ensuring the contest moved into the golden-score period, where the first successful score or decisive penalty determines the winner.

The extra period proved equally tense. Both fighters continued to trade attacks in a physically draining contest that tested their stamina and resolve. After nearly three minutes of exhausting golden-score action, Toprak finally capitalised on relentless offensive pressure and secured victory on Ippon, ending Yamini's courageous challenge.

Although the gold narrowly slipped away, Yamini Mourya's silver medal stands as a significant achievement for Indian judo. Her resilience, tactical discipline and determination against an experienced opponent underscored India's growing strength in the sport and added another valuable medal to the nation's Commonwealth Games campaign.
