Y. S. Sharmila demands immediate refund of ₹15,000 Cr electricity charges

The Andhra Pradesh Congress has sharply criticized Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu (@ncbn) over the state’s electricity charges. The opposition alleged that during the 15 months of the coalition government’s rule, the people were burdened with a “True-Up” charge of ₹15,780 crore. With the so-called “True-Down,” the relief has been reduced to just ₹923 crore.

The Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) has reportedly asked the government to refund this additional ₹923 crore collected for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Despite this, the ruling coalition has been praising itself, claiming massive reductions in charges and significant relief for consumers, calling it a mark of efficiency and experiencing an assertion the opposition calls “shameful.”

The AP Congress termed the announcement of fulfilling election promises on electricity charges as “the biggest joke of the century.” They demanded that if CM Chandrababu Naidu is serious about electricity relief, he should immediately implement the promised 30% reduction in current charges and withdraw the extra ₹15,000 crore imposed under the “True-Up” adjustments.
