xAI: Grok 4 Fast joins the race

Elon Musk-owned artificial intelligence company xAI has launched its latest AI model, Grok 4 Fast, a cost-efficient version of its earlier Grok 4 system. Designed for both enterprise and consumer applications, the model integrates reasoning and non-reasoning capabilities into a single framework, aiming to optimize performance while reducing operational costs.

According to xAI, Grok 4 Fast uses approximately 40% fewer “thinking tokens” on average than Grok 4, while maintaining comparable accuracy. Independent evaluations by Artificial Analysis confirmed that the model achieves a cost-to-performance ratio up to 98% lower than its predecessor, highlighting its efficiency and affordability.

The model features a 2 million token context window, enabling it to process large inputs efficiently. Trained using reinforcement learning, Grok 4 Fast merges reasoning and non-reasoning functions into a unified system, reducing latency and operational costs.

Grok 4 Fast is now accessible on xAI’s official platform (grok.com), as well as on iOS and Android applications, and is integrated with OpenRouter, Vercel AI Gateway, and the xAI API. For a limited period, the model is available free on OpenRouter and Vercel. Two versions grok-4-fast-reasoning and grok-4-fast-non-reasoning both support the 2 million token limit. Pricing for smaller workloads begins at $0.20 per million input tokens, with costs scaling according to usage.
