WPL alert: Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals in a do or die clash today
Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals will be eager to get their campaigns back on track when they face each other in a crucial Women’s Premier League match here on Tuesday.
Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur , have endured an uneven season so far, managing just two wins from five matches. While they remain second in the five team standings, consistency has eluded them. After opening their campaign with a defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai bounced back with a dominant 50 run win over Delhi Capitals in the reverse fixture, followed by a comfortable victory against Gujarat Giants. However, two consecutive losses against UP Warriorz have stalled their momentum, pushing them into catch up mode as the tournament progresses.
One of Mumbai’s major concerns has been their powerplay struggles. Hayley Matthews’ delayed return from injury and constant experimentation at the top of the order have resulted in the lowest powerplay run rate in the tournament so far. The team has leaned heavily on Nat Sciver Brunt , and Mumbai have suffered whenever the experienced all rounder has failed to deliver. Frequent changes in the playing eleven and below par fielding, including 10 dropped catches in five matches, have added to their problems.
Delhi Capitals find themselves at the bottom of the table with three losses from four outings. After losing to Mumbai and Gujarat in their opening matches, Delhi managed a lone win against UP Warriorz. However, an eight wicket defeat to RCB in their previous game once again exposed their inconsistencies.
Skipper Jemimah Rodrigues’ lack of runs in the middle order has hurt Delhi, while Laura Wolvaardt will be keen to regain form after being dismissed for a duck in the last match. Wolvaardt remains a key figure in their batting lineup, having earlier played a superb 77 against Gujarat Giants in a narrow four run loss.
With the league stage entering a decisive phase in Vadodara , both teams will view this contest as an opportunity to revive their season and strengthen their playoff hopes. The match is scheduled to begin at 7.30 pm.
