World’s fastest chip powers next-gen mobile AI
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has officially launched the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, establishing it as the world’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip (SoC). The platform is powered by the 3rd Generation Qualcomm Oryon™ CPU, the fastest mobile CPU to date, offering a 20% increase in performance over its predecessor. This advancement positions Qualcomm at the forefront of high-performance mobile computing.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 integrates a new Qualcomm Adreno™ GPU architecture, delivering a 23% improvement in graphics performance, and a Hexagon™ Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with 37% faster AI processing. These enhancements are designed to provide seamless multitasking, extended gaming sessions with optimized power efficiency, and highly responsive device performance.
A defining feature of the platform is agentic AI, which operates entirely on-device. Leveraging real-time sensing and continuous learning, multimodal AI models can understand user behaviour and offer proactive recommendations. This approach enables highly personalized experiences while maintaining user data privacy, as all AI processing occurs locally without reliance on cloud servers.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 also introduces support for the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, making it the first mobile platform capable of studio-grade video recording on smartphones. Combined with AI-powered camera enhancements, users can achieve professional-quality content creation and extensive post-production control, positioning the platform as a tool for creators and multimedia enthusiasts.
Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handset at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., said, “With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, you are at the center of your mobile experience. It enables personalized AI agents to see what you see, hear what you hear, and think with you in real time. This platform pushes the boundaries of personal AI and allows users to experience the future of mobile technology today.”
The chipset will be featured in upcoming flagship devices from major global OEMs, including Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, POCO, realme, REDMI, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. New devices incorporating the platform are expected to launch in the coming days, highlighting Qualcomm’s continued dominance in the premium smartphone segment.
With over 40 years of innovation in mobile, AI, and connectivity technologies, Qualcomm remains a leader in high-performance, low-power computing. Its Snapdragon platforms power devices globally, while Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, manages research and development, engineering, and semiconductor operations. The company’s licensing division, QTL, oversees its extensive patent portfolio, ensuring broad technology adoption across the industry.
By combining world-class performance, advanced on-device AI, professional-grade multimedia capabilities, and a strong OEM ecosystem, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reinforces Qualcomm’s leadership in the premium smartphone market. The platform is designed to deliver next-generation experiences, from AI personalization and gaming to video creation, setting a benchmark for mobile technology in 2025 and beyond.
