India’s medal tally at the ongoing World Boxing U-19 Championships continued to grow as Aditya stormed into the men’s 55kg semifinals with a commanding victory over Italy’s Tommaso Orlando in Budva, Montenegro, on Saturday.

Aditya delivered a dominant performance to register a unanimous 5-0 victory over Orlando in the quarterfinals, becoming the first Indian male boxer to secure a medal at the tournament. With his semifinal berth, India has now been assured of at least three medals at the championships.

The Indian boxer will next face Nihat Gasimov of Azerbaijan in the semifinals, where he will look to extend his impressive run and secure a place in the final.

Aditya’s achievement adds to the success of the Indian women’s contingent, with Megha Sheokand (women’s 80kg) and Prachi Tokas (women’s 57kg) having already booked their places in the semifinals. Under the tournament’s medal system, reaching the last four guarantees a medal, ensuring India’s tally will rise further if more boxers advance.

However, the Indian campaign also witnessed some setbacks in the late session on Friday, as three boxers bowed out after quarterfinal defeats.

Mausam Suhag lost 0-5 to England’s Yashua Flemming in the men’s 65kg quarterfinals, while Aman Dev suffered an identical defeat against Georgia’s Shalva Beridze in the men’s 50kg category. Lakshu also went down 0-5 to the United States’ Marley McNealy.
