Amaravati’s rise as Andhra Pradesh ’s capital is attracting global attention, with international institutions monitoring its development closely. On Wednesday, a World Bank delegation met Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat to discuss ongoing projects, infrastructure, and investment opportunities.

The delegation commended the government’s rapid progress in establishing Amaravati as a greenfield capital, highlighting its potential to become a major growth hub for the entire state, not just an administrative center.

Naidu presented the Amaravati master plan and detailed current developments. He emphasized that the capital is designed as a thriving economic center, with modern technologies deployed in roads, IT corridors, power, and water systems, all developed sustainably.

World Bank officials praised the city’s systematic planning and pace of construction, noting that global-standard infrastructure is critical for economic growth. They referenced Naidu ’s earlier IT and power sector reforms in Hyderabad as a model for transforming Amaravati into an international economic hub.

The meeting also addressed statewide development. Naidu said growth would extend beyond the capital, with targeted strategies for Rayalaseema , Coastal Andhra , and North Andhra , leveraging regional resources to boost industry and employment.

The delegation highlighted Amaravati ’s strategic location, connectivity via airports, highways, and railways, and robust infrastructure as factors likely to attract global investment. They supported the government’s vision of making the city a global IT destination, noting that clean energy initiatives and digital governance would strengthen investor confidence.

Naidu outlined the broader development plan: industrial growth in North Andhra , irrigation and horticulture in Rayalaseema , and aquaculture and logistics in Coastal Andhra , with Amaravati as the knowledge economy hub. He requested technical and financial support to implement these initiatives and noted plans to enhance education and healthcare to showcase the state’s human capital globally.

The meeting marks a pivotal milestone in Andhra Pradesh ’s reconstruction. With international support, Amaravati is poised to become more than a city, it is envisioned as a driver of economic transformation, attracting major investments and employment opportunities, and securing its place among India’s top cities.
