Women’s World Cup hero Sricharani gets Rs 2.5 cr from AP govt

The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday formally honoured India women’s cricket World Cup hero N Sricharani with a Rs 2.5 crore cash award, recognising her pivotal role in India’s historic 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup triumph.

The left-arm spinner from Kadapa was felicitated after playing a key part in India’s 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had earlier announced a comprehensive incentive package to celebrate her contribution to the title-winning campaign.

As part of the government’s commitment, Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh personally met Sricharani at her residence in Undavalli and presented her with the cheque on behalf of the NDA coalition government, according to an official release.

The incentive package includes a Rs 2.5 crore cash reward, a residential plot, and a government job. While the Chief Minister had initially promised a 1,000 sq ft housing plot in Kadapa, Sricharani has now been allotted a 500 sq ft residential plot in Visakhapatnam, the release said.

In addition, the cricketer will be offered a Group-I level post in the Andhra Pradesh government after she completes her academic degree, ensuring long-term career support beyond cricket.

Sricharani, a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, represents the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and has been a consistent performer for the Andhra women’s cricket team.

The state government said the honour reflects Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to recognising sporting excellence and inspiring young athletes across the state.
