Marking International Women’s Day , Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi called on women to recognise their inner strength and actively participate in shaping society. She was speaking at a Women’s Day celebration organised on Sunday at Majeti Ram Kalyana Mandapam in Koritepadu in the Guntur West Assembly constituency. The programme was conducted under the leadership of women representatives of the NDA alliance and witnessed enthusiastic participation from local women.

The event began with tributes to Telugu Desam Party founder Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and freedom fighter Chakali Ailamma , whose lives were remembered as symbols of courage and public service. Addressing the gathering, Madhavi highlighted the prominent role women hold in Indian society, describing them as the backbone of families and the first teachers who instil values, courage, and compassion in future generations.

She noted that women today are increasingly excelling in diverse sectors, demonstrating leadership and talent across fields. However, she emphasised that empowerment must begin with self-belief. Instead of waiting for society to recognise their abilities, women must first identify their own potential and pursue opportunities with confidence.

Drawing inspiration from history, the MLA referred to legendary figures such as Rani Rudramadevi and Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi , who overcame formidable challenges to emerge as icons of bravery and leadership. Their legacy, she said, continues to motivate women to break barriers and take on greater responsibilities in society.

Madhavi also stressed the importance of solidarity among women, stating that collective support can bring significant social transformation. She praised the women’s committees that jointly organised the celebration, calling their effort a demonstration of unity and shared commitment to empowerment.

At the same time, she encouraged women to channel their time and energy toward constructive and community-oriented activities rather than spending excessive time on social media or television entertainment. According to her, meaningful engagement in social initiatives can strengthen communities and create new opportunities for women.

The MLA further pointed out that many young girls still hesitate to step beyond their homes due to fear or social constraints. She urged society to play an active role in motivating and supporting them so they can pursue education, careers, and leadership roles without hesitation.

Women attending the programme appreciated the initiatives undertaken by the MLA to address their issues in the constituency. Several participants shared their experiences of receiving timely assistance through the “Mahila Grievance” initiative, which has been set up to resolve women’s concerns and provide support at the local level.

The celebration also featured cultural performances that drew applause from the audience. Women leaders, party workers, and residents of the constituency participated in large numbers, turning the event into a vibrant gathering dedicated to recognising women’s achievements and aspirations.
