Woman gives birth to triplets in govt hospital in Indore

In a rare and surprising birth , a 27‑year‑old woman delivered triplets at a government hospital in Indore on Sunday, officials said on Monday. The high‑risk delivery took place at the hospital attached to the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College , where the mother and all three infants are reported to be healthy and under careful observation.

Doctors said the outcome was unexpected because the ultrasound report before delivery had shown her carrying only two babies . “She first gave birth to two girls, which matched the ultrasound findings,” said Dr Ruchi Joshi, associate professor at the college. “Then, to everyone’s surprise, she delivered a third baby—a boy.”

All three premature babies , each weighing between 1.70 kg and 1.90 kg , are receiving special neonatal care in the hospital’s newborn unit.

The new mother, a resident of the Pithampur industrial area near Indore , already has an older daughter, Dr Joshi added. The delivery was successfully managed by a team of obstetric and neonatal specialists, highlighting the ability of government medical facilities in handling complicated births.

The hospital where the triplets were born is part of Indore’s public healthcare network, which includes tertiary teaching institutions such as the Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital complex that serves a large number of patients from central India. While multiple births like these remain uncommon, prompt medical attention and coordinated care helped ensure the wellbeing of the mother and her babies in this case.
