Woman Dies, Five Critical After Post C-Section Complications at Kota Hospital
A woman died and five others remain in critical condition after developing complications following caesarean deliveries at a government medical college and hospital here, officials said on Wednesday.
According to hospital authorities, 12–13 pregnant women underwent C-section procedures on Monday evening. Within hours, six of them began showing alarming symptoms, including low blood pressure, declining platelet counts and urinary blockage. One of the affected women succumbed during treatment on Tuesday.
The remaining five patients have been shifted to the nephrology ward and are under close observation. Doctors said their condition is currently stable but they will remain at high risk for the next 72 to 96 hours. The newborn babies have been moved to a separate ward for care.
Hospital Superintendent Dr Nilesh Jain said that dedicated teams have been formed both for treatment and investigation. A five-member medical team led by Dr Vikas Khandeliya is monitoring the patients, while another team headed by Dr Suresh Dulara has been tasked with probing the cause of the complications.
Authorities acknowledged that “something went wrong” and said efforts are underway to determine why only six out of the total number of surgeries resulted in adverse outcomes. A death-audit committee has also been constituted to examine the cause of the fatality.
Local MLA Sandeep Sharma visited the hospital to review the situation and said a detailed inquiry is in progress to ascertain the reasons behind the incident.
