Woman Assaulted Near Hafeezpet Railway Station, Home Guard Arrested

A 36-year-old home guard was arrested and removed from duty after he allegedly assaulted a woman near Hafeezpet railway station, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh said on Saturday.

The incident came to light after a video of the alleged assault surfaced on social media. The footage purportedly shows the home guard hitting the woman and dragging her by her hair for some distance near the railway station.

According to police, the incident followed an argument between the home guard, who was deployed for duty at Hafeezpet railway station, and a woman who was reportedly collecting waste in the area. Police said the woman allegedly got into an argument with the home guard and abused him, following which the altercation escalated into a physical assault.

A case has been registered at Miyapur Police Station under Sections 74 and 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused was produced before a court and sent to judicial remand, police said.

The South Central Railway (SCR) also conducted an inquiry into the incident and confirmed that the accused was a Telangana State Police home guard who had been deputed for duty at Hafeezpet railway station. SCR said he was sent back to the Telangana Police Department for further disciplinary action.

Cyberabad Police said such incidents would be treated seriously and stressed that professional conduct, discipline, respect and courtesy towards citizens are fundamental principles expected from members of the police system.

The incident also drew a political response from BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR). Reacting to the video, KTR criticised the alleged conduct of the police personnel and called on the Director General of Police (DGP) to take appropriate action.
