Will blow up building, metro station: Bomb threat email jolts Delhi Assembly before budget

The Delhi Legislative Assembly received bomb threat emails on Tuesday morning warning that the assembly building and a nearby metro station would be blown up, triggering a large-scale security operation hours before Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was scheduled to present the Delhi Budget .

According to officials, the first email was received at the assembly’s official email account at 7:28 am , followed by another threatening message sent to Speaker Vijender Gupta at 7:49 am . The email reportedly warned that the Delhi Assembly building and the Vidhan Sabha Metro Station would be blown up , prompting immediate action by security agencies.

Soon after the threat surfaced, Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams rushed to the assembly complex and launched extensive anti-sabotage checks inside the premises as well as surrounding areas. Security was also tightened near the metro station mentioned in the message.

Authorities said the threatening email referred to several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Union Home Minister Amit Shah , External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar , Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu , Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa .

Investigators also found that the message contained references to a “Khalistan referendum” and claimed to be from a group calling itself the “Khalistani National Army” . Security agencies are verifying these claims while examining the contents of the email.

Following the alert, Bomb Detection and Disposal Teams (BDDT) conducted detailed searches of the assembly complex, while cyber experts began efforts to trace the origin and IP address of the email sender .

Officials said no suspicious object was found during the searches so far, though security checks continued as a precaution. Authorities also maintained heightened security in and around the assembly complex to ensure the safety of lawmakers and staff.

Despite the threat and the ongoing investigation, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta later arrived at the assembly and proceeded with the presentation of the Delhi Budget , while security agencies remained on high alert.
