Panic spread in the mountainous Mohchhan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after a wild bear wandered near the premises of a public health engineering (PHE) plant, prompting swift action from wildlife authorities.

Officials said residents and plant workers noticed the animal moving around the area on Sunday, leading to fear among locals who gathered near the site. Soon after receiving information, teams from the wildlife department rushed to the spot and launched a carefully coordinated rescue operation to prevent any untoward incident.

The bear was later tranquilised and safely captured by trained personnel before being relocated to a nearby forest area. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported either to humans or the animal during the operation. Visuals circulating on social media showed officials and locals assisting in shifting the tranquilised bear into a rescue vehicle.

The successful rescue brought major relief among local residents , many of whom had assembled near the PHE facility while the operation was underway. Authorities also urged people living in forest-adjacent and mountainous regions to remain vigilant and immediately alert the concerned department whenever wild animals are spotted near human settlements.

Officials noted that incidents involving wild animals entering populated areas have become more frequent in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the growing challenge of human-wildlife conflict in the region.
