Wife exposes retired soldier husband’s hidden arsenal after quarrel, 42 prohibited cartridges seized
A domestic quarrel in Ghaziabad has unexpectedly exposed the secrets of retired Army officer Adesh Kumar . The disagreement began with his wife, Kavita , over personal matters, but it quickly escalated, prompting her to take decisive action.
Following the argument, Kavita approached the police and filed a complaint against her husband. Acting on her complaint, authorities raided Kumar’s residence in Radha Kunj Colony on Niwari Road. During the search, they recovered 42 prohibited cartridges , which Kumar allegedly brought home illegally during his service in the Jat Regiment , where he served from 1988 until his retirement in 2009.
The seized ammunition included thirty-five rounds of 7.62 mm, five rounds of 9 mm, two rounds of 12 mm, and one 5.56 mm casing. These are classified as prohibited bore cartridges , which are designed for firearms reserved for the military, police, and other security forces . Such rounds include 9 mm, .303, and 7.62 mm ammunition , and they cannot legally be possessed by civilians without special government permission. Possession, transfer, or storage of prohibited bore ammunition without authorization is a serious offense under the Arms Act, 1959 , which can result in imprisonment and fines . Military ammunition remains government property , and even retired personnel are not permitted to retain it without strict authorization.
Authorities said the complaint also reflects a longstanding domestic dispute. Kumar reportedly moved out of the marital home several years ago and has been living with his sister in Meerut. Police records indicate that Kavita had also complained about an alleged physical assault by Kumar shortly before the ammunition was discovered.
The discovery highlights the strict control and vigilance around military ammunition in India, showing how quickly possession of prohibited cartridges can escalate into a legal matter. Enforcement agencies across the country remain alert to the illegal possession, transfer, or storage of such ammunition, which can have serious consequences for public safety.
For now, the police have registered a case based on Kavita’s complaint , and the search for Adesh Kumar continues . Officials are investigating why the cartridges were kept, whether he acted alone, and whether anyone else was involved. The case serves as a reminder of how a personal dispute can unexpectedly uncover a serious legal violation and bring long-hidden secrets to light.
