‘Why Should I?’ IndusInd Bank CEO Rajiv Anand Questions ‘Unmapped’ Voter Status

IndusInd Bank Managing Director and CEO Rajiv Anand has raised concerns over the status of his name in the electoral roll, saying he was informed that his name had been “unmapped” from the voting list and that he could be required to appear for a hearing to prevent its deletion.

In posts on X on Sunday, Anand said he had voted in every election since becoming eligible and questioned why he should have to undergo such a process despite possessing several government-issued identity documents.

“I have been told my name is ‘unmapped’ from the voting list. I have voted in every election ever since I have been eligible to vote,” Anand said, pointing to his passport, PAN card, voter ID and Aadhaar card.

“Why should I?” he asked.

In another post, Anand highlighted the irony of having multiple documents to establish one’s identity. “Indians have so many certificates to prove who they are. Aadhar card. PAN Card. Voter ID. Passport. You would think there is an identity crisis!” he wrote.

His remarks come amid the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, under which voters whose records are classified as “unmapped” or show logical discrepancies may receive notices seeking supporting documents.

The Election Commission last week announced measures to ease the process. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of people issued notices to collect documents and upload them on the ECINet platform for consideration by the Electoral Registration Officer.

The EC said such voters need not ordinarily appear for a hearing, except in exceptional cases, preferably online. An adult family member can also attend on behalf of an elector if required.

The deadline for claims and objections has been extended to October 30 in Delhi and October 12 in Maharashtra.
