‘Why No FIR?’ Supriya Sule Demands Investigation Into Ajit Pawar’s Fatal Air Crash

NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule on Wednesday questioned the Maharashtra government over the registration of a case against MNS leader Amit Thackeray for allegedly removing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph, while pointing out that no FIR has been registered yet in connection with the air crash that killed then Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Addressing a press conference, Sule referred to the FIR against Thackeray over the alleged removal of Modi’s photograph from a wall at a government polytechnic in Pune. She contrasted the action with what she described as the absence of a formal police case or proper investigation into the fatal plane crash involving Ajit Pawar.

“You register an FIR against him just for taking down a photo from a wall, but such a major plane crash occurred where a sitting Deputy Chief Minister lost his life, and no FIR has been registered yet,” Sule said.

The Baramati MP also questioned why leaders of the NCP faction headed by Ajit Pawar, which is part of the ruling alliance, had not publicly demanded an FIR or investigation. She said her family had lost a prominent member while political leaders continued to remain in power.

Sule also opposed proposed big-ticket projects in Thane, including the Ring Metro and an Amazon Data Centre, saying local residents had raised objections. She said she had conveyed their concerns to Thane MP Naresh Mhaske.

Criticising the Ring Metro project, Sule argued that Thane needed better public bus connectivity instead of expensive infrastructure projects. She alleged that the government prioritised costly projects while failing to allocate sufficient funds for poorer and vulnerable sections.

Taking aim at Maharashtra’s road infrastructure, Sule described the state’s roads as “potholes with roads in them”. She also questioned the government’s celebration of recent GDP growth figures, citing what she called discrepancies between official data and economic experts’ assessments of the economy.
