Who Is Rukmini? Nani Launches Nithiin's ‘Alias Rukmini ’ With Intriguing Glimpse

After delivering the sensational courtroom drama COURT, Natural Star Nani's Unanimous Productions has officially announced its second production, Alias Rukmini, with Nithiin in the lead role. Produced by Deepthi Ganta and directed by Murali Kanth Devasoth, who earned widespread acclaim for Dhandoraa, the film also stars Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead, marking her first on screen pairing with Nithiin.

The film was formally launched on Monday with a traditional pooja ceremony, where Nani, the cast and the technical team came together to unveil the title and release an intriguing announcement glimpse. The event marked the official beginning of the film's journey, with the makers confirming that Alias Rukmini has entered pre production and that regular shooting will commence soon.

The title glimpse opens with Nani asking director Murali Kanth to narrate the story. The filmmaker says it revolves around Krishna, a Class 10 mathematics teacher played by Nithiin. However, instead of focusing on Krishna, the visuals introduce a series of dreamlike sequences inspired by fictional novels written under the pen name Rukmini, instantly creating curiosity.

Books titled Garam Gopal, Aameku Aame Ante Ishtam, and Vratham Venkanna flash across the screen, hinting at Rukmini's personality while teasing the film's unconventional storytelling style. Confused by the narration, Nani interrupts and asks, "Who is Rukmini?" —a question that has now become the biggest talking point from the glimpse.

The answer arrives in the final moments when Nithiin appears as Krishna, sporting spectacles and introducing himself as a mathematics teacher. When Nani repeats the question, Krishna calmly replies with just two words: "My wife." The brief reveal, elevated by Vijai Bulganin's soothing background score, transforms the announcement into an emotional mystery that leaves audiences wanting more.

Produced by Deepthi Ganta under Unanimous Productions, the film features an accomplished technical team comprising Jomon T. John ISC as cinematographer, Vijai Bulganin as music composer, Avinash Kolla as production designer and Srujana Adusumilli as editor. Their work is already evident in the polished and visually striking announcement glimpse.

Going purely by the glimpse, Alias Rukmini looks like one of the boldest and most unconventional films in Nithiin's career. The playful references to spicy novels, layered humour and emotionally charged narration suggest the film could explore romance, relationships and intimacy in a way rarely attempted in mainstream Telugu cinema. If that turns out to be the case, it could introduce a relatively fresh genre for both Nithiin and the Telugu film industry. At the same time, if the film pushes those boundaries, it will be interesting to see how much of the makers' original vision reaches theatres after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certification process.
