Who Is Prabal Pratap? The Backstory Behind The Viral Supreme Court Incident

A viral Supreme Court video showing a dramatic courtroom exchange has brought attention to the year-long legal battle of Prabal Pratap , who has been seeking registration of an FIR against Duplex Technologies and a Lucknow police official over allegations of fraud.

Pratap has claimed that he is not a “serial agitator” but a persistent petitioner who has been fighting for the same demand for nearly a year. According to his claims, his only demand has been registration of an FIR so that an investigation can begin into his allegations against Duplex Technologies.

The petitioner has claimed that he submitted 150 pages of evidence along with his complaint. According to details of the case, he approached the Lucknow Police in April 2025 , alleging fraud, but claimed that his FIR was not registered. He also alleged that an ACP-level officer became involved in the matter, raising questions over the handling of his complaint.

After failing to get the desired action from the police, Pratap approached the courts. The matter later reached the Allahabad High Court , where he was reportedly asked to pursue the private complaint route instead of getting a direct order for FIR registration. Under this process, the complainant has to present evidence before the magistrate, who then decides whether further action, including FIR registration, is required.

The matter eventually reached the Supreme Court , where Pratap appeared in person before a bench of Justices K.V. Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe . During the hearing, the proceedings turned tense after Pratap addressed the judges as “Mr Judicial Servant” and said, “I order you to order the registration of FIR against ACP, Vikas Nagar, Lucknow.”

The remark prompted Justice K.V. Viswanathan to respond, “You are ordering me? You are ordering us?” Reports said Pratap continued arguing his case, referring to his documents and claiming that his file contained evidence supporting his allegations.

The situation escalated when Pratap allegedly threw case papers towards the bench and used unparliamentary language against the Chief Justice of India. Security personnel intervened and removed him from the courtroom.

Despite the courtroom disruption, the Supreme Court later decided not to initiate contempt proceedings against him, noting the circumstances of the incident. The bench dismissed his appeal, finding no reason to interfere with the earlier order.

The controversy has shifted focus to the larger issue behind the incident: whether Pratap’s allegations against Duplex Technologies and the concerned police officials will receive a formal investigation. The allegations remain claims made by the petitioner and have not been established through a final court verdict.
