A political row erupted in Tamil Nadu after AIADMK leader R B Udayakumar took a dig at Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader C Joseph Vijay, referring to actor Trisha while questioning appointments allegedly linked to the chief minister’s film career.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Udayakumar alleged that people associated with Vijay’s films, including producers and technical crew members, were being appointed to various government positions.

Listing several such appointments, the former minister sarcastically asked when Trisha, who has acted alongside Vijay in several films, would be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.

Tamil Nadu awaits to see when Vijay's Trisha will be appointed as Deputy Chief Minister,” Udayakumar said in the video.

The remark triggered an immediate backlash from TVK supporters and Trisha’s fans. A TVK functionary filed a complaint with the Tuticorin district police, seeking legal action against Udayakumar over what was alleged to be a derogatory remark.

Trisha’s fans in Madurai also condemned the statement and put up posters warning that they would not tolerate such comments. They said they could be compelled to stage protests if such remarks continued.

The controversy comes amid a separate row involving former Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was recently arrested and questioned in connection with an alleged double-meaning remark concerning Trisha. He was later released on station bail.

Udhayanidhi denied the allegation, saying his comment had a “single meaning” and was related to the state’s demand for Cauvery water. He also accused authorities of using a “cut, copy, paste” method to distort his statement.

TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna had defended the action against Udhayanidhi and said strict measures should be taken against comments targeting women.

There was no immediate official reaction from those named in Udayakumar’s remarks.
