Apple has once again pushed the limits of smartphone technology and pricing with the launch of its iPhone 17 series in India, ranging from Rs 82,900 to Rs 2,29,900. The new series includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, marking a shift from the traditional “Plus” variant and introducing features that justify its higher price tags.

One of the biggest changes is storage. Apple has discontinued the 128GB base model, meaning even the cheapest iPhone 17 starts at 256GB, doubling the entry-level storage compared to previous generations. The Pro models go even further, offering 512GB, 1TB, and for the Pro Max, an unprecedented 2TB option, making it the most storage-packed iPhone ever. This is a key reason why the new series costs significantly more than the iPhone 16 series.

Design and performance have also taken a leap. The iPhone 17 Pro features a striking new look and supports Apple’s A19 chipset, which Apple claims is 20% faster than iPhone 16, 80% faster than iPhone 15, and double the speed of iPhone 13. Video playback has been enhanced with 8 extra hours of viewing time, and the fast-charging technology allows 10 minutes of charge to power 8 hours of video,a real convenience for power users.

Apple has also focused on aesthetics with new colour options like cosmic orange, deep blue, and lavender across models. The iPhone Air series, the thinnest iPhone at 5.6mm, now supports eSIMs only, reflecting Apple’s push towards a sleeker, more digital-first design.

In addition to smartphones, Apple launched the Apple Watch 3 Ultra, priced at Rs 89,900, featuring satellite communication that allows messaging and location sharing even off the cellular network.

In essence, Apple’s iPhone 17 series is expensive because it combines larger storage capacities, cutting-edge performance, advanced battery and charging technology, and bold design innovations. For loyal fans and tech enthusiasts, it’s a statement device, blurring the line between luxury gadget and essential tech. Apple isn’t just selling a phone; it’s selling power, speed, and exclusivity in a sleek package.
