Wet week ahead, heavy showers in T’gana

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a seven-day weather forecast for Telangana, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the state over the next week. Citizens and farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions as the region is likely to witness widespread rain and gusty winds.

According to the IMD, from 22 September to 29 September, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places across Telangana. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in several districts, including Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, and Siddipet. Other districts such as Adilabad, Peddapalli, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal may also witness heavy rain during this period.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are expected at isolated places in all districts throughout the week. Citizens are warned to be cautious and avoid staying under trees or near weak structures during thunderstorms.

The IMD has highlighted the potential impacts of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Medium risk conditions may cause water to pool on roads and in low-lying areas, wet and slippery roads, minor traffic congestion, and temporary disturbances in electricity and water supply. High-risk conditions could lead to more widespread waterlogging, major traffic disruptions, falling trees or electric poles, and damages to structures and vehicles. Very high-risk situations may cause significant flooding, extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure, and severe disruptions to daily life.

Farmers have also been advised to follow the weather alerts closely and temporarily adjust farming activities to avoid risks from rain, wind, or lightning. Municipal authorities and traffic departments are expected to take preventive measures, including clearing water from streets and regulating traffic to ensure safety.
