Western Australian Board partners with Chennai schools for global curriculum
The Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), a globally recognised senior secondary qualification from the Government of Western Australia, has expanded its presence in India by signing MoUs with schools in Chennai to introduce its curriculum from the 2026–27 academic year.
The agreements were formalised at the New India Education Summit in Chennai in the presence of Tamil Nadu Education Minister Thiru Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
Governed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), WACE is known for its competency-based, inquiry-driven approach that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and practical learning moving away from rote-based education.
Syed Sultan Ahmed, Chairman of The Association of International School of India (TAIS) and Advisor to WACE India, said the expansion marks growing confidence among Indian educators in adopting international curriculum frameworks. “Our goal is to integrate global best practices into Indian classrooms to create flexible, future-ready learners,” he noted.
Following the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) equivalence granted earlier this year, WACE graduates can pursue higher education in India with Class 12 equivalence, as well as opportunities abroad.
Faiza Mirza, Chief Operating Officer, WACE India, said, “With each new partner school, we move closer to building an ecosystem that offers Indian students international exposure and global academic pathways.”
Currently offered in over 16 countries, including Singapore, China, Japan, and Malaysia, WACE provides students with the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), accepted by leading universities in Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, and Europe.
