The West Bengal government on Tuesday carried out a major reshuffle of the state's police leadership , transferring 28 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and five West Bengal Police Service (WBPS) officers , according to an official notification. The exercise involves several senior officers heading key departments and police commissionerates.

Among the prominent changes, Additional Director General (ADG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Supratim Sarkar has been transferred and posted as ADG, Telecommunications. Sarkar had previously served as the Commissioner of Kolkata Police before being transferred by the Election Commission ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections held in April this year.

Senior IPS officer N R Babu , who was serving as the Director General of Correctional Services , has been appointed as the new Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP), CID . His appointment places him at the helm of the state's premier investigative agency.

The reshuffle also brings a change in the leadership of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate. Amit Kumar Rathod has been named the new Police Commissioner , replacing Tripurari Atharv . Bidhannagar Police oversees several key urban areas adjoining Kolkata and plays an important role in maintaining law and order in the region.

Another significant transfer involves K Jayraman , who was serving as ADG, North Bengal . He has now been appointed as the Director of the Directorate of Economic Offences , a department responsible for investigating financial and economic crimes across the state.

The latest administrative overhaul is one of the most extensive changes to the state's police hierarchy in recent months. Such reshuffles are undertaken periodically to streamline policing, strengthen leadership in critical departments, and improve administrative efficiency across the force.

The official notification did not specify the reasons behind the transfers. However, the appointments are expected to take effect immediately as the state government realigns senior police officers across key law enforcement and investigative positions.
