“We will not allow Huzurabad to be poisoned,” says MP Etala Rajender

Etala Rajender, Member of Parliament from Malkajgiri, warned that the establishment of a dumping yard that could devastate the lives of people in Huzurabad and surrounding villages would be resisted at any cost . He extended his full support to the ongoing protest organised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) in Huzurabad on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that lakhs of people were suffering from diseases due to the dumping yards at Jawahar Nagar and Balaji Nagar in Hyderabad, adding that he was a direct witness to their plight. “The daily wages earned by residents there are being spent entirely on hospital expenses. After being elected as MP, I personally filed a case in the Supreme Court regarding the Jawahar Nagar issue. Within a week, we will launch a large-scale protest there along with a team of MPs,” he said.

He dismissed the government’s claims of generating electricity from waste as “utter lies.” He alleged that such plants produce intense noise and release insects into the air, leading to skin diseases. He further claimed that groundwater becomes contaminated, turning green and unusable even for washing one’s face. “Officials spray perfume during inspections to mask the stench, but at night, contaminated water is released into nearby water bodies,” he alleged.

Rajender cautioned the government against what he described as a “reckless move” to transport waste from Huzurabad, Karimnagar, and Siddipet to set up power plants in the area. “Do not make hollow statements. If you play with people’s lives, beware,” he warned. He also demanded that the present government revoke the government order allegedly issued illegally by the previous administration led by K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2022, when he was serving as an MLA.

Reiterating that he is a people’s activist , Rajender said he would personally lead the movement if local leaders failed to do so. “Etala stands for awareness. I fear no one. I will not rest until the dumping yard is removed from here,” he asserted. A large number of JAC leaders and villagers participated in the protest.
