We Need To Create New Social Norms: Jensen Huang Says AI Will Transform Society

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has called for society to develop new social norms to adapt to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, arguing that people should embrace the technology rather than fear it as AI reshapes economies, workplaces and everyday life.

"We need to create new social norms," Huang said in an interview with the Associated Press. "I would advocate that everybody use AI. Just go engage it."

Speaking during a visit to Sherman, Texas, Huang said AI is helping close the technological divide by allowing people to perform sophisticated tasks without programming expertise. He noted that AI can build websites, analyse complex documents, guide advanced research and even help plan home renovation projects. According to Huang, broader adoption of AI could accelerate economic growth , improve productivity and unlock major scientific breakthroughs.

At the same time, Huang acknowledged concerns over job losses and the speed of AI adoption. He argued that society would adapt to AI much as it adapted to automobiles through new rules, infrastructure and safety measures. Recalling how communities changed after cars became widespread, Huang said technological revolutions inevitably require changes in public behaviour and governance.

The Nvidia chief stressed that government regulation , safety standards and national security safeguards remain essential as AI becomes increasingly powerful. He also linked AI's future to America's ability to compete globally, particularly against China, saying the United States must maintain leadership in the rapidly evolving technology sector.

Huang made the remarks alongside a USD 2 billion partnership between Nvidia and Coherent in Texas that is expected to create around 1,000 jobs . Describing such facilities as AI factories , he said advanced computing infrastructure could help revive American manufacturing and generate new industrial employment opportunities.

He also warned that energy could become a major bottleneck for AI growth. "The United States is woefully behind in energy production ," Huang said, arguing that expanding AI data centres will require substantial new power generation and grid capacity. The Texas facility will produce technology designed to reduce AI power consumption by as much as 50 per cent.

Addressing proposals that governments should own stakes in leading AI companies, Huang expressed skepticism, arguing that Americans already benefit through investments, tax revenues and job creation. " Americans have a stake in American companies already ," he said, adding that AI-driven growth will extend beyond technology firms to sectors including construction, energy and manufacturing.
